Fifteen-year-old Tav has spent his life beneath the wide skies of the steppe, where his people tend their herds, honor their ancestors, and defend the land that keeps them alive.

Then he is chosen to train for Yarta’s chariots.

Beside him stands Kelan—older, stronger, and seemingly unshakable. Together they must learn to control two powerful horses and a machine of wood, leather, and bronze where a single mistake can kill them both.

But beyond Yarta’s grazing lands, another people are pressing closer. A scout is murdered. Herds disappear. And a proud young warrior from the south is determined to turn an old rivalry into war.
