I may be an anthropologist but I also fancy myself as a bit of an artist, so I did some artwork on my trip to Berilia. I was taken to two of the most sacred places on the planet. The inhabitants wouldn’t allow me to use any technology to take pictures or other representations, but I was allowed to draw them. I was told my heart would give a better representation. I must say, how adorably anachronistic.

The path up to the entrance of the Cave of the Shadow Oracles. I had the privilege to visit this cave with the colony’s senior Shadow Oracle, Tavish. We didn’t go in very far, and he made a pleasant little fire just inside the cave entrance. I asked him how far the caves went, but his answer was somewhat elusive. I personally think they just go in far enough for some living places. But there was nice, comfortable airflow coming from the interior. -A

This is Haurter’s Nest. It is the holiest of places, a lava lake where the colony takes its dead and slides the bodies of deceased individuals into the lava, in order to return them to this planet. However the Taithan spiritual tradition is more complicated than that, and it is only the material body that returns to the planet. The soul goes elsewhere. -A
